More than
a contractor.
For 33 years we've built as the owner and the developer, not just the contractor. That's the difference you feel on every job.
Since 1993
J.A. Fielden Co. was founded in Knoxville in 1993 and has spent the last three decades building across the Southeast — industrial and manufacturing plants, multifamily communities, retail programs, and signature commercial work.
What sets the firm apart isn't a list of projects. It's a perspective you can't subcontract. We've been the builder, the owner, and the developer — we've watched a budget move in real time and decided whether the finish was worth it. That changes how we price risk, how we protect a schedule, and how we treat the relationship from first handshake to final walkthrough.
Built on the relationship, not the transaction
Most of our work comes back to us — project after project, owner after owner. That's not an accident. It's the natural result of a team that makes its clients' jobs easier and shows up with solutions already in motion when a problem arrives.
Proven
Our reputation travels project by project, relationship by relationship — built through performance, not positioning.
Grounded
Scale without ego. No project is too large or too small to treat like it's the only one on the books.
Discerning
Our standards don't change when the pressure is on. We make the right call over the easy one.
How we run a job
The Fielden Five.
Five principles that show up on every project — not as a slogan, but as the way the work actually gets done.
Engineering Optimization
Solve it on paper first. Smart preconstruction turns design intent into the most buildable, cost-effective path.
Total Teamwork Approach
Owner, design, and trades pulling the same direction. We coordinate; we don't dictate.
Finish the Job
The last 5% is where reputations are made. We close out clean, complete, and on our word.
Future Cost Prevention
We catch tomorrow's problem today — protecting the budget, the schedule, and the building's life.
Authentic Partnerships
Relationships that outlast the punch list. Most of our work comes back, project after project.
